The Enrichment Programme

How do Students Qualify for Enrichment?

The top two Year 9 classes are automatically placed in the Enrichment Programme for one year. We then allow them to settle into school life and to prove themselves academically.

In Year 10, the top 60 students for English, Maths, Science, and Social Studies are chosen based on the students’ Year 9 results. These students are grouped into two classes for each subject, and taught a specialised programme. Students who are in two or more of these classes are considered part of the Enrichment programme and stay together for Year 11 as well.

To gain access to Year 12 Enrichment students must a minimum of 6 Excellence grades at Level 1 and for Year 13 a minimum of 4 Excellence grades at Level 2. Consideration is given to students who do not meet the criteria, should they wish to apply.

What Other Opportunities are Available within the Enrichment Programme?

At Hamilton’s Fraser High School we aim to produce well-rounded students. Enrichment focuses on developing the students’ teamwork and leadership skills. Every year, the students are given the opportunity to attend the Enrichment Camp at Raglan. Here, the students are taught to surf by professional tutors and, in groups, work their way through various challenges to enhance teamwork, perseverance, problem solving, and leadership. Year 12 and 13 Enrichment students act as leaders in this setting and run the activities.

In Years 11, 12, and 13 we focus on the students’ future career options. To achieve this, we take the students on trips to three different universities to look at the courses they offer, how to apply, and what scholarships are available that the students can apply for.
