HomeHealth CentreHealth Centre Evaluation

EVALUATIONS OF HEALTH CENTRE USE AND PERSONNEL

Every year the Health Centre obtains evaluations from approx 50 students from each year level. Staff as a whole are invited to fill out evaluation forms and our visiting part-time staff are given evaluations to fill out.

Every third year we have had an outside provider do an intensive evaluation of our Health Centre’s services and personnel. For example, twice now we have had graduate community psychology students from Waikato University write a very comprehensive report with recommendations from the surveys and interviews they carried out with students, school staff and Health Centre personnel. It is interesting to note that in feedback from our District Health Board service provider – Pinnacle – our doctors are utilized by students to a far greater degree when compared with schools that have a visiting doctor but no comprehensive health centre. It feels as though at Fraser, we have a school climate that sees the Health Centre and its services as being a pivotal part of the school and provides services and support that are essential to the well-being of both students and staff. There is never any sense that students are embarrassed to access our services and by far the majority of new clientele are from self-referral and friend referral.

A major indicator of the success of our services is the fact that all of our services are fully utilized every day. Often our biggest difficulty has been to provide a room especially on days when we have two or three trainee counselors with us. Another difficulty is finding students in such a large school however, we are gradually finding ways around this by using cell phones to remind students of appointment times.
