The Exceptional Talent Programme is for students who demonstrate gifts or talents in a particular area. These are students who are in the top echelon of the school within their subject, who represent their region or country in a field, or who have been identified by experts as being highly talented in an area.
The aim of the programme is to help students continue to achieve excellence within their area of gift or talent by giving them all the necessary support. We also look at areas within their schooling that may be holding them back from top level achievement and work with the student to overcome these barriers.
Each year begins with an Exceptional Talent Programme camp. This provides an opportunity for students to get to know each other, especially those in their talent area, and for teachers to interview each student and establish an action plan to help them achieve their goals.
Members of the programme are placed in one of two group rooms with students from Years 9 to 13. Group time consists of a mix of study, peer tutoring, forums, and celebrating the successes and achievements of the students.
We endeavour to establish mentoring relationships between our students and experts in their field from the community. These mentors work with our students to give them expertise, guidance and experience that we cannot replicate at school.
Students are recommended to the Exceptional Talent Programme Co-ordinator who will then work through identification processes to ensure the eligibility of the student.
