Tutor: Kerry Wright
This course is designed to empower someone who wants to build or alter a house or building. The student will gain a greater understanding of the design process and building trade. You will learn to read and interpret basic plans. You will be given a basic understanding of building structure and design practice so that you can converse with an informed idea of the building you are wanting to create and what to consider about your buildings design. You will gain a better understanding of the consent process, tendering, contracts and project management. In the End you would have created your own design brief for your designer and have an understanding of why you have come to your design decisions. Kerry Wright, your tutor, is the Managing director of his own Architectural design company has been an Architectural Designer for 30 years. He has spent some of that time in mechanical Engineering, retail designer and project management for National retailers. He comes with a wealth of experience with residential design ideas to share and a strong desire to give you good knowledge of a complex industry.
This course is supported by the TEC (Tertiary Education Commission) to assist with literacy and numeracy needs of students. You must attend 80% of the class. At the same time we hope you will learn other useful and interesting skills and have a lot of fun learning with us.
