Nia® Dance is an amazing fusion-style, dance fitness class that utilises movements from three martial arts (Tai chi, Tae Kwon Do, and Aikido), three forms of dance (Jazz, Modern & Duncan dance) & three ‘Healing Arts’ including Yoga to create ease of movement. These movement forms are all blended together with a unique range of world music to inspire the mind, emotions and spirit. It is taught as a fitness, lifestyle, and mindfulness practice.
Nia is non-impact, practiced barefoot and is suitable for all ages and abilities no matter your fitness level. All movements are easily adaptable, and you are invited to move in your body’s way.
In this class you will be introduced to the 52 basic moves of Nia and dance a 60 minute class every week using a large range of different music and simple movement sequences.
Catherine is a Nia® Technique certified Greenbelt instructor and has been teaching Nia classes in Hamilton & Gordonton since 2018. Catherine has worked in the field of health and wellbeing since 2007. She is passionate about sharing the fabulous practice of Nia, as she has experienced first-hand the benefits in her own body and seen the positive impacts this practice has been in the lives of her students. “Through movement we find health”
Wear comfortable clothes to move and sweat in. Bring a water bottle and a yoga mat if you have one (not essential). If you perspire a lot, you may like to bring a small towel with you as well.
This course is supported by the TEC (Tertiary Education Commission) to assist with literacy and numeracy needs of students. You must attend 80% of the class. At the same time we hope you will learn other useful and interesting skills and have a lot of fun learning with us.
