Why does so much fresh produce from the supermarket have so little flavour?
What are the benefits of eating seasonal produce?
How can we grow more of our own food?
This 8-week course provides learners an opportunity to explore the
interconnectedness between soil, plants and human health. It is designed for anyone
open to learn alternative ways of growing food in your backyard garden.
Offering a range of both practical and theoretical classes, this course focuses on
developing essential growing knowledge, including how to build healthy soils.
Participants will learn how increasing soil microbiology can help produce plants that
are more resistant to pests and diseases, while at the same time providing greater
nutritional value.

Your Tutor Kaori Barris
Kaori moved to Aotearoa from her home in Japan in 2011. She worked for 8 years
on a biodynamic farm in South Kaipara before taking on a new challenge as 2IC on
an organic dairy farm in South Waikato. On top of these experiences Kaori has
completed numerous courses including, organic food production, permaculture and
regenerative agriculture. Kaori is passionate about growing food in ways that are
healthy for both people and the earth.

This course is supported by the TEC (Tertiary Education Commission) to assist with literacy and numeracy needs of students. You must attend 80% of the class. At the same time we hope you will learn other useful and interesting skills and have a lot of fun learning with us.
