TAKING ENROLLMENTS FOR TERM 4 2022 - November 5 & 12

Tutor: So Fan Shum

Join So Fan on two Saturday mornings for some tasty Chinese vegan/vegetarian cooking. We will introduce some delicious and healthy ingredients and flavors used in Chinese cuisine and learn how to process and use them.

Lesson one covers classic favorites with a vegan/vegetarian twist- you will learn how to make dumplings using TVP as the meat alternative as well as a rainbow fried rice that will bring five colours to your meal.

Lesson two delves into a few lesser-known but equally tasty dishes, including a vegetarian Shaomai (savoury sticky rice moneybags), and soybean paste (miso) eggplant stir-fry. Depending on the time So Fan might demonstrate one of her other favorite dishes, such as vegan wontons, steamed tofu with black bean or stir-fried Asian-style greens.

While you will learn multiple recipes in each class, each class will focus on making one recipe together, step by step. For the other recipes, So Fan will give a live demonstration. Before the start of each class, So Fan will send you a shopping list for ingredients to purchase for the class. You will also be asked to bring containers to take your delicious food home.

Course fee includes a selection of specialty Chinese ingredients that So Fan will introduce to you throughout the course. She will also tell you where you can buy more of them if you like them, as well as provide you the shopping list for the remaining ingredients that you will bring yourself to each class.

This course is supported by the TEC (Tertiary Education Commission) to assist with literacy and numeracy needs of students. You must attend 80% of the class. At the same time we hope you will learn other useful and interesting skills and have a lot of fun learning with us.
