Waikato Family Adventures is a family-oriented adventure group based in Kirikiriroa (Hamilton). You can join anytime!

Our aim is to facilitate free, fun and inclusive adventures for Adult learners, their children and their whānau (family)  to help grow connection with nature and our local community. Each week we go on a different expedition that engages whānau with environmental care and active citizenship.

Each term we are involved with a range of activities, such as learning about native biodiversity, engaging in conservation action, connecting with community groups, participating in citizen science projects, and much more!

Order of adventures to be confirmed, but the curriculum for term 4  includes:

  • learning how to lay nature trails and bush skills
  • exploring the Waikato River
  • visiting Waikato Regional Council chambers and learning about their mahi
  • connecting with native trees and bark rubbing
  • community litter picking and the impacts of rubbish
  • tree releasing and conservation work in local bush
  • eel feeding in local gully
  • exploring Waiwhakareke natural heritage site
  • biodiversity counts and discovering native species

All sessions focus on whakawhanaungatanga (making personal connections) within the group, and manaakitanga for our taiao (environment)  and hāpori (region).
