New Zealand has three ‘official’ languages: English; Maori and New Zealand Sign Language. (Please Note: You need to have done Courses 1A and 1B before doing this course).
New Zealand Sign Language is celebrating its 10th Anniversary this year.
Deaf people in New Zealand are very passionate about their visual language and it is being shared with Hearing Impaired, people with other Disabilities and the mentally impaired.
Sign Language is part of Deaf people’s culture and living in their silent world.
My name is Fiona Damm, I was born Deaf and I am very passionate about my sign language. I enjoy teaching my language and sharing my Deaf culture with you.
I am a member of N.Z.S.L. Northern Branch and I shall be organising a “Silent Camp” for NZSL students. Watch this space!!!
You can use Sign Language. You can learn on this Course doing basics structure and you can socialise and meet other Deaf people in café, clubs and camping with other students.
This course is supported by the TEC (Tertiary Education Commission) to assist with literacy and numeracy needs of students. You must attend 80% of the class. At the same time we hope you will learn other useful and interesting skills and have a lot of fun learning with us.
